Chesley Bonestell: a brush with the future

I grew up with Bonestell paintings, in books, magazines, and movies. I remember most of the space images in this documentary. But I didn’t know Bonestell was also an architect, who had a hand in the creation of the Chrysler Building in New York and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Or that he had done illustrations in Sunset magazine. Loved the intro about George Pal’s 1952 movie, “War Of The Worlds” (which is still my favorite version). It’s fun when a documentary shows you new things about something you thought you knew. And we got to watch it together! Yes, I know, our marriage is full of nerdy pastimes… Afterward Diane was humming the closing theme song “I want to live in a Chesley Bonestell Scene”; that memory’s a keeper
