I’ve seen many Pinocchio movies… some of them only for a few minutes. This one from Guillermo Del Toro made me want to study the screen intently, not miss a single thing. Visually it is an absolute stop-action animation treat. All the characters are flawed and complex, and the angels of life and death are awesome. And Del Toro’s ‘Monstro’ makes Disney’s look like he belongs in a koi pond.
It’s on Netflix, creepy and amazing and fun. And I think the scariest thing in it was fascism.
Is it better than Disney’s original animated version? I’d say yes, and that’s going some considering that the 1940 version is an absolute classic. Keeping in mind that many factors go into how ‘good’ a movie is.
