School Of Rock review

There are spoilers in this trailer

“School Of Rock was the highlight of my career,” said Jack Black, of the cast of kids who were his co-stars in this feel-good comedy. Jack is Dewey Finn, a financially-challenged rocker impersonating his roommate as a substitute teacher. At first, he doesn’t know what to do, and the class is pretty dismal. But then he finds out his entire class has musical training…

He has no idea how to be a teacher, but raw instinct and love of music help him encourage his stressed-out students while he hatches a plot. He is so natural at reaching each student at the point of their anxiety and telling them that they have value.

Black’s a hefty guy, so his ability at physical comedy is downright surprising. And his comedic timing is perfect.

Like every story, there’s a moment when darkness and ruin descends. But it isn’t too much of a spoiler to say… things turn around. This movie is sweet, and uplifting, and fun.

  • The movie cost a little over $34m to make but brought in $136m – a musical comedy record it held for over a decade.
  • Yes there are scenes that fussy type people could take issue with, but (shrugs). From the reading I’ve done, Jack Black is one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.
