Long Way North review

Move over, Elsa

In October of 2019 we watched this amazing Dutch+French animated film about a teen girl of Russian nobility, obliged to tackle the unexplored Arctic to save her family’s honor. It’s got beautiful animation, brave characters, bad characters who must rise up, tragedy, terrifying scenes on the ice, and a very, very good dog.

There are a couple cues that this is a bit of an alternate universe (for example, Russians with British accents, and neither penicillin or CPR were invented in 1882) but you won’t care as you sit on the edge of your seat watching a million tons of ice cracking up while a ship sails beneath it.Highly recommended. Make popcorn, and you can watch it for free on Amazon Prime or for three bucks on YouTube.
